Real wedding: Country living with Unine & Christo

Unine Kritzinger and Christo Nortje celebrated their union in a charming setting that combined their love for country living and classic details.

Christo and I were planning a weekend wedding and looking for a venue that could accommodate the majority of our guests at the venue itself. Florence Guest Farm & Wedding Venue had a classic vintage feel to it and not only did it tick all of the boxes, but we fell in love with it on our very first visit to the place.

Birdwatching was a source of inspiration for us. We used the names of birds for the seating, feathers in the confetti and flower arrangements, to decorate the lovely wedding cake, and as part of the groomsmen’s boutonnières. We also used a bird’s nest to present the wedding bands at the ceremony.

I really loved the beautiful delicate beading on the bodice of my dress, and the subtle lace detailing around the bust and hemline. It was a dress fit for a princess, which was exactly what I felt like when I wore it. It was a perfect fit, elegant and dreamy.

Our main focus was to keep the decor classic and elegant. The flowers were arranged in a way that made it look as though they were actually growing out of the vases, which varied in shape and size to give definition to the unique ‘growing’ arrangements. Glass plates, silver cutlery and white candles complemented the beauty of the venue, the Florence Guest Farm’s milking shed, which has stunning chandeliers, giving it a romantic feel.

While we had our professional photos taken, an assortment of appetisers – from home-made breads and jams to pâtés and cocktails – were served to our guests. We chose a main course that consisted of a buffet of creamy chicken; perfectly prepared beef fillet with pepper sauce, spinach and rice; fresh salad with blue-cheese sauce and figs; and the most delicious pampoen-koekies. The wedding cake was a perfectly baked moist carrot cake decadently covered in cream-cheese icing and decorated with flowers, leaves and feathers.

We spoilt our guests with custom honey jars and wooden honey dippers as wedding favours. I married quite the romantic and, in the middle of the reception, my new husband invited all the gentlemen to take their ladies’ hands and join in a slow dance to ‘When a Man Loves a Woman’ by Michael Bolton. Wow!

Our opening dance was to ‘Thinking Out Loud’ by Ed Sheeran. All the guests joined in for the next song, ‘Shut Up and Dance’ by Walk the Moon.
