What are some of the best venues you’ve worked at?

The Western Cape is blessed with some really incredible venues, but Lourensford Wine Estate in Somerset West is definitely one of our favourites. It has incredible views overlooking the vineyards.

Another stunning venue is Nooitgedacht Wine Estate located just outside Stellenbosch, which boasts Cape Dutch architecture and a beautiful chapel.

Landtscap has breathtaking panoramic views, a contemporary building and incredible service.

What’s your advice for couples who want to do their own decor?

Researching DIY ideas online is an easy way to get started. Visit different wholesalers to compare prices and ensure you receive the best deals. Keep it simple.

Any tips for choosing a menu?

Pay attention to the season as some dishes will not be available or will cost more, so align your priorities with your budget. Keep guests’ dietary requirements in mind, but make sure the meal is something you and your partner both enjoy.

A plated menu is always a hit, with little extras, like fresh sorbet as a palate cleanser, creating a lavish feel.

For a more relaxed occasion, a buffet feast brought to each table will help create a festive atmosphere.

Just remember, the longer your menu, the longer you delay the partying. Serve canapé-style desserts so guests can hit the dance floor and enjoy something sweet at the same time.

What are some of the hidden costs we should be prepared for?

There can be many unplanned expenses, from beauty treatments to wedding dress alterations. Also factor in gifts for the bridal party – it’s a nice way to thank them for being part of your celebration. Another cost couples often forget to budget for is postage of invitations and thank-you notes – these costs may seem small, but they can add up.

How do I make sure everything runs smoothly on the day without a wedding co-ordinator at hand?

Appoint a friend as the MC or co-ordinator and provide him or her with the programme of events. The minister or marriage officer can also be briefed to guide proceedings after the ceremony. Delegate trusted friends and family to handle any last-minute decor requirements or to contact service providers on the wedding day to ensure that everything runs as planned.
