Toni-lee & Michael - Wedding Album

Toni-lee & Michael

For Toni-lee and Michael, their wedding was a culmination of years of friendship. So it only seemed fitting that their day be a celebration of this. The natural forest setting in Stellenbosch they chose as their venue provided the perfect platform for friends and family to toast towards their relationship.

The dress

My dress was perfect! I found it at The Wedding Boutique and couldn’t have asked for a better experience – I fell in love with my dress the moment I saw it! I absolutely loved the boutique with its elegant decor, friendly staff and attention to detail. Shopping for my dress was so much fun. I wanted something simple with a touch of elegance, something that would sweep the ground – it truly was my dream dress.

The theme & decor

Our theme was rustic elegance with lots of greenery. We used the forest at our venue, Winery Road Forest, as our guide and inspiration and kept the decor as natural as possible while still retaining an elegant look and feel.

The cake & food

We wanted something informal following the ceremony, to give our guests time to unwind and enjoy some snacks. We opted for a harvest table that looked and tasted good. Thanks to Avec Mari Catering’s Marilou, we were not disappointed. Everything was delicious and the portions were perfect. The harvest table was served at the lake near the forest and included tasty pork belly with grilled pineapple and apricot glaze; Gorgonzola, Brie and Gouda platters; fresh fruit, nuts, olives and pickles; chicken liver and snoek pate; assorted bread and crackers; vegetable spring rolls and Thai phyllo parcels with home-made ginger syrup. For drinks, we served Leopard’s Leap wines and Lize of Winery Road provided cucumber mocktails served in little glass jars – our guests loved this and some even asked for the ‘secret recipe’.

Toni & Michael food

For mains, served in the barn, there was stuffed free-range chicken breast supreme with feta, cream cheese, thyme and garlic; mushroom risotto with Parmesan and parsley; butternut fritters with caramel sauce; Greek salads and grilled and steamed veggies. Our guests’ drink options included Krone’s Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, Leopard’s Leap and fresh fruit juice while for dessert, served in the courtyard, we had mini pavlova with granadilla cream and kiwi fruit, and decadent chocolate brownies with berries.

We opted for a non-traditional cake by the Velvet Cake Co.: two toasted meringue-covered cakes – one chocolate, the other red velvet – that complemented our theme perfectly. We also found a rustic cake topper that summed up our entire day and experience.

The venue

Winery Road Forest was the first venue we visited – and we fell in love with it immediately! We wanted our guests to feel at home and the venue allowed us to do numerous things and make use of all its features, including the forest, lake and barn.

The details

I would say our music was honestly the highlight of the ceremony; it really created a magical atmosphere within the forest setting. We wrote our own vows and those were so personal and special. I also decided to change the song I would make my entrance on two days before the wedding and Michael had no idea. I found the most perfect one that said everything I wanted to tell him – it was quite emotional as he never turned to see me walking until I was almost at the altar.

Toni & Michael

For his part, Mike surprised me with a beautiful letter before the ceremony (which he asked my mom to deliver) that included a set of keys to our apartment. The letter outlined how he couldn’t wait to see me at the altar and start this new chapter of our lives together.
