Beauty & the bear: A look inside Springbok superstar Siya Kolisi’s wedding

The Cape Winelands served as the perfect backdrop for the nuptials of Springbok superstar Siya Kolisi and his beautiful bride Rachel Smith.

THE VENUE

Our venue options were limited due to the size of our guest list, but MolenVliet has enough space for 250 people and room for a dance floor. The estate is exquisite and has ceremony options for both rain and shine. The beautiful on-site accommodation and amazing staff sealed the deal for us.

THE THEME

There wasn’t much of a theme. We wanted it to be crisp and clean, so kept the colour scheme to white and black. Being a mixed-race couple, it was a good representation of us! Our vision for the day was simply to show the realness of our relationship and love, and for all our guests to leave remembering our day.

THE DRESS

I’m a simple girl and all about comfort. I wanted something flowy, with a veil and no bling. My dress was custom-made by Habits, with Chantilly lace and Italian tulle, and had long sleeves and an open back. It was perfect!

THE DECOR

We kept things simple; nothing over the top. We had white flowers with greenery to break it up, as well as lots of candles, chandeliers and fairy lights to create a romantic setting. We weren’t picky and just tried to let the experts get creative.

THE FOOD

Again, we allowed the experts to do what they do best. Siya and I love a good steak, so we served that for mains. There was also seafood, chicken and veggies, and oxtail served on samp. For dessert, we had a variety of canapés, including chocolate and malva pudding. We also had a spitbraai at midnight that was served with fresh butter rolls for guests who were hungry. Our cake stuck to the theme: chocolate mousse on the inside and vanilla butter icing on the outside, decorated with fresh flowers. It was honestly the best tasting wedding cake I have ever had.

THE DETAILS

We played a video of our bridesmaids and groomsmen saying a few words, and a slide show of our love. We acknowledged people who had travelled from overseas to be with us by mentioning them in our speech and a photograph taken with them.
