Real wedding: Summer lovin’ with Zane & Josh

Fun, food and festivities defined the summertime nuptials of Zane Meyer and Josh Wallace at the breath-taking Bona Dea Estate in the Hemel-En-Aarde Valley in Hermanus.

THE VENUE

We enlisted our parents to be our trusty venue scouts, as we were based in Joburg at the time. The key was to find a venue that offered something different to the typical Western Cape wedding in a vineyard. When we were down in Cape Town to inspect the shortlisted venues, we immediately fell in love with Bona Dea estate in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. We knew this was the place where we would be able to create a summer feast for our family and friends – the right place to start married life together.

THE THEME

We broke a few of the typical wedding rules, so we didn’t have a colour scheme and theme for wedding decor. The principal idea was to create a feeling of summer festivities so that our friends and families would feel relaxed and energised – the flow of events,buffet-to-table-style dinner, tropical music and various small details contributed to create the vibe.

THE DRESS

I was quite tired after doing several fittings at different stores during one week in Cape Town and nearly cancelled the last appointment. Thank goodness my mom convinced me to go! From the moment we met Elizabeth and her team, I was inspired and excited. She understood exactly what I wanted and what would work for me. Sometimes it helps to listen to the advice the experts give. The dress was a tailored design and the attention to detail and the service we received was fantastic.

THE DECOR

Citrus and fynbos were the overall idea for the flowers and decor. We didn’t spend too much energy on decor, as we didn’t regard this as the most important part of the day. We focused more on the music, ambience and food. We left most of the decisions around decor to the team from Bona Dea, who delivered an exquisite venue space.

THE FOOD

Two Chefs were amazing! They were flexible and easily created a delicious menu that used ingredients we love. We opted for a buffet-to-table-style dinnerso that our guests could interact and pass food around to simulate typical Sunday meals we have with our families. We wanted a feast, and Two Chefs’ food and service was really top class.

THE DETAILS

The team at Bona Dea provided an all-encompassing service to us. The team was always ready to include something extra in terms of the events over the weekend, which really helped make our wedding extra special.

THE FIRST DANCE

Our opening dance was to ‘Thinking Out Loud’ by Ed Sheeran. All the guests joined in for the next song, ‘Shut Up and Dance’ by Walk the Moon. We decided to do a dance as we entered the dining area. We set the dance to a tropical house song and incorporated dance moves that we’d collected through the years of being together – victory dances, Madiba shoulders, trance moves, sokkie and even a shimmy. Dance has always been uplifting and a fun activity for us. It was such a good way to start the evening.
