Izette & Neels

The picturesque Muldersdrift served as the a fitting backdrop to Izette and Neels Le Roux’s Protea-inspired wedding day.

The dress

From the day I saw the stunning Keira dress by Janita Toerien, I knew I’d found my wedding dress. The dress is sophisticated, elegant and bespoke just like the designer. I am still amazed at the detail of the beadwork and how perfect and comfortable it was.

The theme & decor

We were inspired by the beautiful King Protea and the stunning gardens of our venue. Our place-card holders consisted of beaded King Proteas in different shades of pink, white and red, and – along with a booklet on interesting topics of South African heritage: animal tracking, gems and other stones – were given to our guests as favours. All our stationery – invites, tags, programs and thank-you cards – had a hint of the Protea on them and the back of each guest’s chair was tied with a wire Protea.

The cake & food

We opted for a three-course meal of favourite South African dishes – from pumpkin fritters to malva pudding! True to our theme, our wedding cake was a delicious moist vanilla sponge coated in marzipan with a sugar-paste Protea on the top.

The venue

Our venue was Engedi in Muldersdrift. The sandstone chapel provided us with the ideal space to host our intimate wedding – and our guests were greeted by a black swan roaming the lawns!
