Be your heartiest, healthiest self as you embark on your new chapter

We’re sharing 8 of our top well-being tips for you to share with your partner. Start practising wellness after your engagement and carry your new habits with you into your married life.

1. ALLOW 15 MINUTES TO FALL ASLEEP

When your mind is buzzing with work deadlines, what you’re cooking for dinner this week and tedious wedding admin, it may take you longer to nod off. Allow yourself at least 15 minutes to fall asleep and factor this into your schedule so that you’re in bed earlier.

2. CREATE A CALMING ATMOSPHERE IN YOUR BEDROOM

Your surroundings are key for ensuring a good night’s sleep, so create a calming atmosphere in your bedroom. This could be as simple as keeping a few incense sticks or a diffuser at your bedside or, if you prefer going the whole nine yards, why not indulge in a relaxing bubble bath before crawling between the sheets.

3. WIND DOWN

Wind down with a routine that you can follow consistently. Pamper yourself by running a hot bath (or shower), rub on a scented body lotion or lose yourself in a good book. Stay away from the TV and your phone before bed – your eyes need a chance to adjust to normal conditions after prolonged exposure to the glare of a device’s screen.

4. WRITE DOWN YOUR THOUGHTS

It may seem old school, but writing down your thoughts – whether in a printed journal or on a digital platform – will help relieve you of anxiety. You can even take it one step further by jotting down worst-case scenarios followed by three ways they can be avoided.

5. KEEP THE ROMANCE ALIVE

Go on dates! You’ll get an opportunity to escape the noise of wedding prep for a while.

6. SET ASIDE ME TIME

Set aside some time, even if it’s just a couple of minutes, where you can indulge in an activity that distracts you from everything else. Whether it’s a hobby or simply enjoying a good chick flick, you’ll be transported to another world.

7. MEAL PREP

There’s nothing worse than a bloated tummy, which can be exacerbated by the stress of planning your wedding. Bid your swollen belly farewell by preparing meals that contain 30% complex carbohydrates, 30% lean proteins and 40% vegetables.

8. INNER BEAUTY

A clear complexion forms the basis of your flawless bridal make-up look. And while dairy has received a bad rap for robbing us of silky smooth skin, dark chocolate and oat milk contain just the right blend of ingredients to make your skin glow. Not into dairy? Drinking green tea and plenty of water will give you the same results.
