Claudia Coetzer and Duncan McHaffie’s chic, contemporary affair was a day full of love and laughter in Joburg.

THE VENUE

We wanted a new, fresh venue, and White Light at The Forum is exactly that. The Forum is also known for its excellent cuisine – we love good food and it was a must for our big day.

THE THEME

‘Crisp, modern and elegant’ describes our wedding style. White, light grey and silver elements were brought in to create our contemporary chic theme.

THE DECOR

We had all-white flowers: hydrangeas, Dendrobium orchids and roses, with silver sequin tablecloths, glass cylinder vases, crystal candelabras, mirrors, crystal strings, DIY ribbon chandeliers hanging from the trees, and plenty of candles.

THE DRESS

I chose the Juliette gown from the Jeannelle la Amour collection by Casey Jeanne Atelier, which I ordered via Calegra Bridal House in Pretoria. It caught my eye with its hand-embroidered bodice and spider Chantilly lace. We got engaged in Paris, so I took its French-inspired look as a sign that it was ‘the one’.

THE FOOD

We served canapés after the ceremony and an incredible three-course dinner at the reception. Our four-tier red velvet cake was created by my mother, who has her own cake business, Memory Worx. I didn’t see the final product until the big day. Not only did it look amazing, it was delicious too!

THE FIRST DANCE

We chose ‘Better Together’ by Jack Johnson. It’s romantic, yet upbeat, and has a lot of meaning for us.

THE DETAILS

There were lots of little surprises on the day, but the one that got a big giggle from the crowd was when Duncan’s best man gave me a printed T-shirt during his speech, explaining how to pronounce my new surname, McHaffie – many people get it wrong!

ADVICE

Enjoy every minute of this special time, always go with your gut feeling and keep a wedding file for your ideas, invoices and contracts. Organisation is key to ensure it is as stress-free as possible.
